Naples was awash with emotion on September 26, when Gigi D’Alessio’s sold-out concert at Piazza del Plebiscito turned into a cinematic moment. In front of a packed square, the beloved singer-songwriter introduced actor and musician Matteo Paolillo as the lead in Only If You Sing, the upcoming biopic that will chronicle D’Alessio’s early years.
The film, directed by Luca Miniero, is produced by Titanus Production and Pepito Produzioni in collaboration with Rai Cinema.
To mark the announcement, D’Alessio and Paolillo performed a touching live duet of Spiegame cherè, thrilling the thousands in attendance.
“Seeing my story come to life on screen is an indescribable emotion,” said D’Alessio.
“I’m sure Matteo will capture the soul of that young man who dreamed of reaching people’s hearts through music. This film isn’t just about my life — it’s about everyone who believes music can change theirs.”
Paolillo added, “Portraying Gigi is a huge responsibility. Through this project, I’m getting to know the man behind the artist. His journey allows me to speak to my generation — the one rushing to succeed, afraid to fail — and to remind them that success takes time, sacrifice, and determination.”
The announcement, met with overwhelming enthusiasm, symbolized a powerful embrace between Naples, its music, and its cinema — celebrating a story that belongs to the city and beyond.
